Hawai'i Skin Diver Expo

I recently attended a dive expo that is well known throughout the diving community. The Hawai'i Skin Diver expo is a biannual spearfishing event held by Hawai'i Skin Diver, where many local and domestic company get together to advertise, sell, and promote new and old products. Many people attend this expo to pick up cheap gear and to learn about the new products thats are soon to be released. I enjoy attending these events because its a good way to meet new people in the diving community as well as pick up tips and tricks from the more experienced divers.
I helped my friend and owner of Hammerhead Spearguns, Kevin Sakuda at the expo and worked at the Hammerhead booth. We were selling tons of gear at ridiculously cheap prices and many costumers walked away with smiles on their faces. I also paid for the deposit on my new Hatch gun.!
I apologize that the photos are blurry and not too high quality. I took these photos with my Gopro and unfortunately the lens wasn't properly wiped off before taking the pics:/
Guns, shafts, masks and everything in between at the hammerhead booth. This is Noah helping out a costumer thats checking out the new Hammerhead Proteus speargun.
Tons of shirts and apparel as well at the Hammerhead booth.
Omer booth looking good with their mannequin modeling some wetsuits.
I was very interested in this Gyotaku that has been reproduced on a canvas. This was done by the Gyotaku artist for Red Sea Adventures. I to do Gyotaku art and had a very enjoyable conversation sharing techniques and tricks with this artist. I look forward to posting some of my art on this blog soon.

Kenny of N3K at the Hatch Customs booth. The top gun is the "rasta" gun in which belongs to kenny. Hatch is showing off his new guns with color matching reel line, tracks, and handles. They looked really good!
Shane's Amero (blue track blue handle) and a customer looking to pick up a brand new Hatch!

The West Side Dive and Tackle booth also looked impressive with their vast array of dive gear.
Extremly blurry, but this is Hawaii Skin Diver's new Gopro mount with the EyeofMind Housing at the Hanapa'a booth. The mount seems to be made of metal. I think the mount looks pretty cool and its ideal in the sense that it fits pretty much all rail guns.
Also blurry (sorry) New 3d wetsuit by Omer. The picture to make the wetsuit was taken by Kurt Chambers at Rabbit island to replicate the reef in Hawaii for ultimate camouflage. I really like this wetsuit.

Heres a short video i took the other day diving in the ruff winds.. The water was murky but there wasn't too much surge. I managed to score a nice 4lb Moana Kali and some good footage of it too! In the video you'll notice a Munu on a shaft on the reef.. That was me freeing his shaft that he left stuck on the bottom for him. The video was taken with my GoPro HD camera and the Eye of Mind Lens housing. And i was using my Hammerhead 110 to land the shot.
I was super exicted to get the opportunity to land a fish such as this one. Moana Kali's are probably my most favorite fish to catch while diving. ! I hope you guys enjoy this video as i look forward to posting more!

New Blog

Hey guys, my name is Kaoru Lovett, I was born and raised here on the east side of Oahu. I enjoy engaging myself in many of the activities that there are here in the islands. Being born and raised so close to the ocean, i found myself constantly at the beach. All the ocean activities that i do today, i learned here at Kailua beach park.

At a young age my dad taught me how to windsurf. It was rough and difficult learning the sport but after getting a hang of the sport, i found it to be amusing and i strived to become better at it. The Naish Family in Kailua have always been very supportive in my ambition to advance as a windsurf as Rick Naish had provided me with custom windsurfing boards when i was too small to effectively use production gear. Also during this time i picked up sponsorship from a company local to Maui known as Hot Sails Maui. Jeff at Hot Sails Maui helped me out enormously and is an incredibly generous man. Hot Sails Maui provided me with numerous sails and other gear that i am extremely lucky to have had. As i excelled in the sport i picked up sponsorship with Dakine as they too provided me with all the windsurfing accessories that i would ever need. I did my best to represent and advertise these three company's as i grew into a better windsurfer and learned how to wave sail at diamond head.

Another sport that i was taught here was the sport of paddling. I always saw people out in the water paddling on six mans and OC-1's while i windsurfed passed them. Not once did it ever come across my mind to learn the sport though....I always thought, Why would i wanna paddle when im going so much faster windsurfing?. Little did i know that paddling was a whole different world of water sport and it required a vast knowledge of the ocean that i wasn't aware about from just windsurfing. My sophomore year of high school at Kalaheo High, i went out to paddle with the school team. I instantly began to love the sport as i continually excelled in it and with my team won numerous titles for our school in winning the OIA's and state paddling races.

The most recent Ocean sport that i picked up was spearfishing. I learned how just like anyone else would, i swam out with a three prong and struggled to shoot anything that i could take home and eat. I loved the thrill and excitement that came with diving and i strived to become better more then i ever have with any other sport that i've done. I find diving fun because its always a new experience and you get to feed your family with fish at the same time. through my progression of diving i have met many cool people who helped me out enormously with experience and generosity. Recently i have gotten a GoPro HD camera and i am trying to produce some small videos that i can share with you guys.

I currently am a student at the University of Manoa in the school of Architecture. I work at Kamanu Composites where we build OC-1s and V-1's. I dive whenever the weather is good and i shoot the HammerHead evolution as well as Hatch custom spearguns.  I honestly feel blessed and extremely lucking to have experienced all of the sports and meet all of the generous people that i have met, and furthermore just too be able to spend my days in the water in paradise. I thought it would be ideal for me to make a blog so that i can share with you my experiences in the ocean. Check back frequently for videos and picture updates!!!
